The Australian Ballet Society held its annual Music Behind the Dance event on Sunday 13 October 2019.
Six days a week our dance studios are filled with the sounds of piano played live and exclusively for our students by the expert musicians of The Australian Ballet School.
On Sunday 13 October the Australian Ballet Society held its annual Music Behind the Dance event, where some of our musicians took centre stage and shared their talent and passion for music with a much broader audience.
ABS musicians Keith Ng and Diane Palmer mesmerised audiences with works by Bach and Ravel. Soprano Sarah Lobegeiger de Rodriguez, accompanied by our own Larissa Oberfeld, delighted with works by Strauss and Puccini.
The rich and diverse program, developed by the School’s Head of Music Paul Brickhill, was enhanced by special guest artists Jonathan Margolin (piano) and Ann-Thu Nguyen (piano).
Students of The Australian Ballet School also demonstrated their musical talent. Level 6 students sang Ukrainian and Russian songs to the sounds of our own Izabella Mouguerman on piano and husband Youri Mouguerman on balalaika.
The Australian Ballet School’s Level 4 student Calista Lewis demonstrated her diverse talent as she performed Seitz’s Violin Concerto No. 5 Op. 22 in D major, accompanied by her father Simon Lewis on piano. Calista then performed her own composition Summer Sunrise on piano.
The post-show afternoon tea was a lively affair and a great opportunity for members of the Society, the School and music-loving Melburnians to mingle.
Many thanks to the Australian Ballet Society, and Paul Brickhill, for organising this special event.
